Papier Mâché
Papier mâché is a great project for preschoolers, as long as you're prepared with plenty of newspaper and smocks.
This mixture was about 1/2 Elmers Glue and 1/2 water, mixed in a big bucket. We ripped up strips of newspaper, dipped them in the mixture, and plastered them on a balloon. Be careful to leave the tie at the end of the balloon uncovered for hanging up (so the paint can dry evenly). After you have a dry plastered balloon, you can really take the project in any direction: make a globe, fruits or vegetables (tomato, pumpkins, apples), or animals (spiders, octopus, etc.). My students made a papier mâché planet for our Solar System project.
